About Solar Decathlon AFRICA
Solar Decathlon AFRICA is an international competition for green buildings, which challenges collegiate teams to design, build and operate grid-connected, attractive and net-zero-energy houses during an eighteen-month period. In the final event of the competition, teams assemble their modular houses in the solar village and they are open to the general public, while undergoing the ten contests of the competition.
Documents for Participating Teams
African Architecture is famous for creating beautiful buildings out of practical materials. The architecture of each region is influenced by the religion, environment and available building materials. There are mud mosques in Djenne, stone churches in Ethiopia and bamboo houses in Cameroon. It is important to remember the heritage of Africa and incorporate some of these traditional styles, arts and materials while building for the future.
